If you want clarifications you should look up the post I just reblogged. Hard facts in the face of a single opinion- this is a no brainer.
Please, no more asks regarding this. If you’re interested in a discussion you can approach me on fanmail but I’m done publishing all these asks about this matter.
I’m sure everyone has heard about this, About CL using a Quran verse in her new song, Mental Break Down. Stuff are getting out of hand, there are Muslims who are bashing CL and there are CL stans who arent Muslim, bashing Muslims and the Quran…because of that I decided to explain everything and…
ren as minah
That’s my sexy boy~
With regards to CL’s song and the usage of the Qur’an, I think some things need to be cleared up. This is something everyone needs to be aware of and some key points that need to be explained.1. Why did it take so long for this to emerge? When we first listen to a song,…
but u know. jins decent husband material. he can cook. and clean. hes soft. dresses decently in his free time. has a high tolerance 4 wild childrens. hes nice. has a nice ass. all the things that i need
Lol I wasn’t gonna answer this but i need somewhere to rant so i might as well try my best to explain things here. Like i wanna scream and shout and break down WHY this is SO upsetting. Firstly If you’re not muslim i believe this topic is not for you to comment on and you shouldn’t go telling a group (especially one as marginalised as Muslims ) how to feel. So fuck everyone who has taken that approach. It is not wrong of Muslims to ask for respect and expect our religious text to not be used in a way that offends us this is simple logic.
I didn’t notice the sample in the studio version but when i heard the live version it was really undeniable and people have even linked the original of the little boy reciting man i feel sick to my stomach i nearly cried ngl.
Like ok the Qur’an is special to muslims as the word of Allah and we are very protective of it both in written form and when it is recited. It is special there’s a very personal emotional attachment many of us have to it and for someone ESPECIALLY a non Muslim to put it in a song is a smack in our faces. Not to mention the fact that music is Haram (although this idea has variations in certain schools of thought the general consensus across the board is that music is forbidden) so essentially you’re taking our religious text and using it in something that goes directly against what is taught in our religion. Just for the sake of using something “exotic” it’s so typical YG and it hurts so much.
Also that’s a kid reciting. They are profiting off using a child’s voice without his/his parents permission or acknowledgement , even if it wasn’t Quran that’d be alarming!!!! I cannot stress the intricacy and skill that goes into reciting Qur’an. It takes so much practice and work to get to the level of that boy reciting and my heart breaks for the little kid who worked so so so hard for something he is very proud of that he believes to be pleasing Allah and it has been used in this way.
CL , Teddy and YG disgust me you cannot continue to use things that do not belong to you in any way you please. And people saying maybe they didn’t know like MATE THEY DID NOT EVEN USE A WELL KNOWN RECITER THEY FOUND A SMALL CHILD WHO IS NOT FAMOUS LIKE HOW MUCH RESEARCH DID YOU HAVE TO DO TO FIND THAT AUDIO?????
I’m SO annoyed by the people trying to belittle faith to justify what they did nah fuck that you cannot put someone down for what they believe just to protect your idol i’m so angry and disappointed it really really ruined my day
THOSE R MY THOUGHTS IDK IF THIS MAKES SENSE IM SO MAD THOUGH
No one would be happier than Blackjacks if there really is no fire to begin with; like I said, let’s see how this plays out. It might not become an issue, it might snowball into one.
I don’t have an opinion on this honestly because there isn’t much I can educatedly base an opinion on; facts are not clear and no official parties have taken a stance. On top of that I myself am not a Muslim so I cannot speak on behalf of anyone else. What is for sure is that if this turns out to be a non-issue a lot of people that sent hate her way should feel awkward.
Personally I think there’s nothing wrong with a little dressing up here and there as long as it’s not offensive to a culture and actually serves a creative purpose. The chola issue can be argued on those grounds very successfully so that’s not a problem. You can take me to court on this and I could defend it in my sleep.
Again, this is a religious controversy. Ya’ll need to distinguish between this and cultural appropriation. It’s really not the same thing as YG trying to be gangsta. This is not a race issue.
You wanna talk about what’s actually offensive to Indian culture?
How about Super Junior’s gross parody? And 4Minutes disgusting Indian version of one of their songs?
A pretty lady wearing bindis ain’t shit to begin with; no one in my country has ever raised a stink about westerners or other foreigners wearing sarees or Indian attire or jewelry or henna or bindis. Bindis are an accessory to begin with; any religious context is minimal and again would depend on the context of the usage itself.
I found nothing offensive in the Fire MV either, in fact it was far more tastefully done than the shit pulled by SJ or 4Minute. The impression I got from Dara’s part was that she was portraying an emancipated female form which is the gist of every female deity in Hinduism.
As far as appropriation itself goes I could write papers upon papers as to how appropriation itself is not the problem but the manner in which it is carried out.
You cannot claim to be a global citizen or a person living in the modern age isolated from any other culture. Everything you use or consume in any form is a result of some form of appropriation or crossing over of cultures. However here the issue is not of cultural appropriation- it is exclusively religious. Don’t drag in the past- it has no relevance to the disrespect that has taken place now.
